For many gamers trying to get into the 3D console world it wasn’t necessary to have an N64. You were most likely a PSX (Playstation 1) gamer. In this article, we’ll show you the basics how you can play Playstation 1 games on your computer using the emulator ePSXe.

PSX emulator makes use of CD images to emulate consoles rather than games with ROM files. This is not the case with other consoles from this time. This is due to the fact that Playstation’s games were played on CDs instead of traditional cartridges. Emulation of Playstation 1 has one problem. It’s easy and requires some assembly. The complexity is comparable to the 16-bit PC/DOS emulate. This guide will teach you the fundamentals of PSX emulators. We’ll then move on to more complicated scenarios in future guides.

The first step is to download the emulator. The emulator can be downloaded on the official ePSXe website.

The next thing you need to find is the most convenient location in your hard drive that you can store your PSX games. I recommend creating a folder for every one of your PSX requirements within that folder and then opening the new folder. Next, create a separate folder for the ePSXe. Also, create a folder for the entire collection of CD images next to the emulator folder. All your CD images should be placed within this folder.

Next, open your emulator folder. The entire ZIP archive you downloaded must be put in this folder. This emulator doesn’t require installation, however it will require some initial configuration when you first open it up.you can find more here download epsxe bios from Our Articles Before you start the emulator, you should locate the Playstation 1 bios file. These aren’t available within the emulator. It is also possible to discuss how to get them. However, they are easy to find and you should try to obtain an entire set. Once you have found the BIOS file, copy the files into your emulator directory.

Once that’s done and we’re ready to search for the GPU plugin. Pete’s GPU plugin is the best GPU plug-in I’ve observed. This plugin can be found here. The GPU plug-in most compatible with your operating system can be downloaded here. Once you’ve downloaded transfer the files to your emulator’s plugins directory.

After downloading the BIOS files and the GPU plugin, the ePSXe executable is able to be executed by double-clicking on epsxe.exe. You will be asked to run the Wizard. It is highly recommended to ensure that all settings are in order prior to proceeding using the wizard. There is no need to do much configuration. Make use of the recommended BIOS file. The wizard will indicate which is the most suitable. Make use of the Pete’s GPU plugin file that you downloaded. Create any additional settings you think are required.

When you’re done you’ll see an emulator screen that appears like this:

To run the emulator setup wizard once again, simply click on the drop-down menu “Config” and then click on “Wizard Guide”.

The following step is setting up the controller. By clicking on the drop-down menu “Config” by hovering your mouse in front of “Game Pad” after which you click “Port 1”, after which , click “Pad 1”.

This pop-up window will appear when you click it. It appears like this:

To modify any of these controls to change any of these controls, simply click on the gray boxes to the right and enter the desired control. When you’re done configuring your digital controller, press the OK button. Please note that controllers cannot be set up while the game is running or paused. This is a very unfortunate feature of emulator. However, once you’ve got a good setup, it becomes much less of an issue.

The next step is to find out where the settings for your video are. These settings can also be found in “Config” Click on “Video”, and then select “Video”.

This will likely load this pop-up window:

Click on the “Configure” button beneath the drop-down menu which displays the name of the graphics plug-in. (Note that the other “Configurebuttons” point to other options. This is the window I received:

The only thing I have tried was switching between fullscreen and windowsed mode. I prefer windowed to have the ability to access other programs if needed. Full screen mode has the benefit of not having to contend with distractions and allows gamers to make use of all your screen to play. Keep in mind, your personal preferences. These settings are accessible if you have to change the video settings of an individual game.

The second option is the standard load state save option. It is located within the “Run” drop-down menu. Speed-keys are my preferred method of saving and loading quickly (F1 to save, F3 for load).

Before loading our first game, there is a few things we need to note. One of them is that the game must be in a very common disc image format. Formats that work well include the ISO format or CUE/BIN. The emulator will notify you which format it can open when you open an image. If it’s CUE/BIN format you need to load the.cue files.

Another way is to hide the current game window , and open a separate window for playing. To quit the game, you will need to hit “ESC” on your keyboard. This is usually the highest-left button on your keyboard.

Furthermore, the method I’m going to show you is only suitable for single-disc format games. For a multi-disc format game follow this guide to play the game. If you choose this method to run multi-disc formats games, you will not be able to change between discs.

Okay. You’re all set. Go to the “File” drop-down menu and click on “Run ISO”:

Browse to the folder that you made for CD images , and then add all the image files. Click on your game image and then click “Open”. The game will start.

Important: To exit the game when it’s completed by pressing the “Esc” key on your keyboard. To exit your emulator click on the “File” dropdown and click “Exit”.

Simply clicking on the “X” button may exit out of the emulator, however, it will leave the emulator process in your task manager. This problem can arise in the event that you try to run the ePSXe Emulator again. The only way to kill the process otherwise is to click “CTRL+Alt+Delete” or by opening the task manager, clicking in the “Processes” tab, finding the ePSXe process, and then clicking the “End Process” button or restarting your computer. The act of ending processes is risky, so you have to utilize the “exit” feature of the emulator to take an exit with a clear path.

Although this is a great place to start when trying to emulate PSX however, it will not suffice. This will result in more questions regarding Emulation. We will be covering more advanced subjects in the coming guides, so be sure to check back regularly.

Enjoy gaming!
